As a member of humanity, we are always tempted to go our own direction. We at times succumb to the lie that we know what is best for us as a person and that we should do what makes us feel good. As a child of God there is a double measure of temptation to follow our own direction. These temptations come from none other than Satan, who wishes us to fail and make a mockery of God. Satan does not desire us to succeed and as many believers can confirm once you have the seal of God the tempter is working overtime to fill our hearts and minds with a false sense of knowing that our choices are the better than that of our Creator!
As a seminary student in California, I had an opportunity to teach the Sunday morning service on an incredibly special day, Father’s Day. This particular church provided a small token gift to all of the men in the congregation that day. It was not the gift that wowed me but instead the message that came with the gift. A card was placed inside the package which is the basis for this article.
The card was entitled, “God’s Direction is Always BEST” and
it sited the NJKV Ps 48:14.
“For this is God our God forever and ever; He will be our guide even to death.”
The card inside this Father’s Day gift read, “God’s direction is always best! So,
confidently, we follow our Savior. The roadblocks, detours, and speed bumps can
discourage us. But Jesus uses His cross, His Word, and His people to encourage
us in the journey. Lord, Jesus, keep me focused on You as I follow…” (the source of these words were not noted on card).
The crux of the card’s message is there will be times of
doubt but stay focused on Christ whom all things are possible (Phil 4:13);
allow Him to be our guide (Ps 48:14).
As a Christian and especially as a servant of God in the mission field from time to time we will face these self-doubts. However, knowing God’s direction is always best and by staying focused on God and not self we will cross the finish line He has prepared for us victoriously!
I pray that each of you stand firm in your faith and recognition that God’s direction is always best!
