The Gordons

The Gordons: A Missionary Family Serving Ukrainian Refugees in Germany

In the heart of Germany, a Christian missionary family known as the Gordons has quietly become a lifeline for those fleeing the devastation of war in Ukraine. With over 25 years of ministry experience, the Gordons have dedicated their lives to serving vulnerable populations—especially orphans, displaced families, and those seeking spiritual refuge in the midst of crisis.

Originally based in western Ukraine, the Gordons built a large home with the vision of fostering children from orphanages. Their work included evangelism, literature translation in restricted regions, and direct care for children with traumatic pasts. But when Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in 2022, the Gordons were forced to relocate to Germany. Rather than retreat, they expanded their mission.

Today, the Gordons live in Germany and continue to serve Ukrainian refugees with compassion and resilience. Their home has become a sanctuary for children and families who arrive with little more than the clothes on their backs. Many of these refugees come from eastern Ukraine, where the war has left cities in ruins and families shattered. The Gordons offer not only shelter and food, but also emotional and spiritual support—creating a warm, welcoming environment where healing can begin.

Their ministry is multifaceted. In addition to fostering between seven and nine children at a time, the Gordons teach in local schools, evangelize in their community, and maintain weekly contact with ministry partners still serving inside Ukraine. These partners run soup kitchens in elderly villages, serve as volunteer chaplains on the front lines, and distribute aid to those who cannot flee. The Gordons help coordinate these efforts from afar, providing logistical support, prayer, and encouragement.

Despite the challenges, the Gordons remain deeply committed to their calling. They speak five languages—Dutch, German, English, Ukrainian, and Russian—which allows them to connect with a wide range of people across cultural and linguistic barriers. Their work is not limited to physical needs; they are passionate about sharing the Gospel and discipling others in their faith.

Security concerns prevent the Gordons from sharing all aspects of their ministry publicly. Some of their work involves sensitive regions and underground efforts to bring Christian literature and teaching to places where the Gospel is restricted. Yet even in secrecy, their impact is profound.

The Gordons are currently seeking partners to help establish a family-style orphanage in Ukraine for children who have lost their parents in the war. Their vision is to create a nurturing, Christ-centered home where these children can grow in safety and hope. The house they built in western Ukraine is already being used to shelter refugees, but they dream of expanding its purpose to serve as a permanent refuge for war orphans.

In their own words, the Gordons ask for prayer above all else—prayer for wisdom, safety, health, time management, and for the people they support both in Germany and Ukraine. Their story is one of perseverance, faith, and unwavering love in the face of unimaginable hardship.

As the war in Ukraine continues, families like the Gordons remind us of the power of compassion and the strength of those who choose to serve. Their ministry is a testament to the enduring hope found in Christ and the transformative impact of living out the Gospel in action.

For those looking to support the Gordons or learn more about their work, prayer is the first step. Financial partnerships and connections to organizations that support refugee care and orphan ministry are also welcome. In a world torn by conflict, the Gordons offer a glimpse of peace—one child, one family, one prayer at a time.
